At the time of releasing the movie, in February 2012, Disney announced that they are going to change the name of the movie in the united kingdom as the country already had a tv series of the same name. The team decided to do this so that there is no scope of confusion left.

The Avengers world premiere was organized on April 11, 2012, at Hollywood El Captain Theatre. The film was released theatrically on May 4, 2012, in the United States.

The Avengers Film Development

Initially, they decided to release separate films for every superhero so that they can make the audience with the characters and then merge them all into a  single movie. Zak Penn, the writer of The Incredible Hulk started working for the film in the year 2006.

The casting of The Avengers started in the year 2008, in the month of October. Initially, it was assumed that Don Cheadle would be seen playing his Iron Man 2 characters but he later revealed that he is not playing any role in The Avengers and said that he did not think that his character would appear in the film.

In the same month, a secondary shooting started in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Later, in the month of August, production was shifted to Cleveland, Ohio.

The Avengers Critical Response

On IMDB, The Avengers Film has been rated 8.1 out of 10. Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is rated 91% fresh. “Thanks to a script that emphasizes its heroes’ humanity and a wealth of superpowered set pieces, The Avengers lives up to its hype and raises the bar for Marvel at the movies,” said the website’s consensus.

Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter said, “It’s clamorous, the save-the-world story is one everyone’s seen time and again, and the characters have been around for more than half a century in 500 comic book issues. But Whedon and his cohorts have managed to stir all the personalities and ingredients together so that the resulting dish, however familiar, is irresistibly tasty again.”

“Like a superior, state-of-the-art model built from reconstituted parts, Joss Whedon’s buoyant, witty, and robustly entertaining superhero smash-up is escapism of a sophisticated order, boasting a tonal assurance and rich reserves of humor that offset the potentially lumbering and unavoidably formulaic aspects of this 143-minute team-origin story,” said Justin Chang from Variety.

A.O. Scott from The New York Times said, “Like a superior, state-of-the-art model built from reconstituted parts, Joss Whedon’s buoyant, witty and robustly entertaining superhero smash-up is escapism of a sophisticated order, boasting a tonal assurance and rich reserves of humor that offset the potentially lumbering and unavoidably formulaic aspects of this 143-minute team-origin story.”

The Avengers Film Post Production

In the month December 2011, it was said by Disney that The Avengers will be converted into 3D. “I’m not a big fan of an extremely long lens, talky movies – I like to see the space I’m in and relate to it, so 3D kinda fits my aesthetic anyway. And the technology has advanced so far in the past couple of years,” said Whedon.

“There definitely are movies that shouldn’t be in 3D” but “The Avengers isn’t obnoxiously 3D. There’s no, ‘Oh look, we’re going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it’s in 3D!’ And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it’s an action movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway,” added Whedon.

The Avengers Music

In the month of November 2011, it was revealed by the team that Alan Silvestri would score for The Avengers. They chose Alan as he has previously worked with Captain America: The First Avenger and has done a pretty great job that time. The team knows that they can fully trust Alan.

“I’ve worked on films where there have been a number of stars and certainly worked on films where there have been characters of equal weight in terms of their level of importance and profile in the film, but this one is somewhat extreme in that regard because each of these characters has their own world and it’s a very different situation. It’s very challenging to look for a way to give everyone the weight and consideration they need, but at the same time the film is really about the coming together of these characters, which implies that there is this entity called the Avengers that really has to be representative of all of them together,” said Alan Silvestri.

The Avengers Movie 2012 Reviews

The comedic timing, coupled with his ability to maintain the authenticity of the characters, is worthy of praise. The Avengers delivers a popcorn feast that’s the perfect summer kickoff. By-Candice Frederick (Reel Talk Online)

Downey’s Stark/Iron Man steals the show because the actor is capable of making the tritest dialogue sound wonderfully witty, but the CGI effects are amazing and, despite its length, the film is very enjoyable. By- David Stratton (At the Movies)

After two-and-a-half hours of world-threatening chaos and world-saving derring-do, you leave the theater satisfied, but without so much as a single memorable image (or idea) lingering in your mind.
